First Sewing Lesson Project

Welcome to my new blog! I am new to blogging so please bear with me as I build my blog site and get things set up here. I think it will be really fun though and I look forward to sharing some pictures of sewing projects and how my sewing lessons are going.

This week, my 12 year student came and finished her first sewing project. She decided on a pillowcase that we found on the Bernartex site . It is a simple project perfect for teaching kids how to measure correctly, cut and then practice sewing seam allowances. She had picked out her own fabric and pre-washed it before coming for her lesson. She choose a pirate theme as her favorite book is Treasure Island.

She did very well on her first piece and had some of the normal troubles with staying with the seam allowances and in cutting her pieces evenly. Above is a picture of her finished pillowcase. We also added some decorative stitching along the seams of the strips. She was very happy with her first sewing project.

Next week we are doing a pin cushion that works on hand stitching skills.

Thank you again for visiting my new blog and I hope you will check back in!
