Popover Dress

This is an absolutely adorable dress which would be great for a beginner sewer to try.  The pattern was created by oliver + s and is offered on their site for free.  I made two of them this summer for my twin girls and they loved to wear them especially on hot days.  For fall though, I can see making some out of fun Halloween prints and putting a long sleeve shirt underneath or a turtleneck and adding some leggings.  How cute!

For beginner sewers, you will learn how to follow a pattern along with making your own bias tape ties.  Hemming the bottom of the dress along with finishing off the edges of the fabric seams with either zig zag stitch or another overcast stitch are some other sewing techniques.  I did not find that I needed as much fabric as the pattern called for but that might be just me.  I would try one out as a test piece and then note how much you will need for the size you want to make.  It is always a good idea to make one test piece before you cut ten out in case you need to change something.

AND, they have also added a doll size Popover dress so you can make a matching dress for your little girl's 18" doll!  She will love it!   You just follow the same directions as for the child's size dress.  This would also be a great project for my younger students as well.

Thank you oliver + s for the wonderful dress patterns!
