I try to encourage each of my new, beginner students to sew a project at home on their own to begin to learn how to navigate through a set of instructions. One of those "sew at home" projects is a pincushion. This square pincushion with ribbon and a decorative button is one I love for them to try.
Inside it is stuffed with Polyfil stuffing that you can buy at any craft store or even Walmart. It takes a little ribbon and a cute button (save all of those buttons that you find) plus you can just use scrap fabric that you have laying around.
If you would like to try and make one, you can find the pattern and directions HERE. The one thing that I did do differently was the pattern said to make clips at the marked dots before you pin it. I would wait until you pin it and then clip your middle strip at the corners to help them go around the corners better. When I clipped before pinning, my scissor snips did not fall in the corners. =(
Let me know if you make one! Happy Sewing!
