Halloween Trick or Treat Bag

So yes, Halloween is just around the corner and I am just now thinking about it!  I have seen, for months, some adorable machine applique designs that I wanted to use on bags.  My girls have been very undecided about whether or not they will go out this year.  They are 10 now.  One really wants to stay home and hand out candy to all the adorable little princesses, pirates and minions that come to our door.  Well, until they decide, I will keep on making little things to enjoy either way.

Here is the bag that I made this week:

I took the Lined Tote Bag pattern that my students make in class and mashed it a little with the Easy Tote bag pattern I used to use when I taught children/teens.  I also used fusible fleece in it, instead of fusible interfacing, which gives it even more shape.  I also added fusible interfacing to the straps for strength and sturdiness.  I also did what is called "color blocking: and added the black panel at the bottom.  Not sure I will do that again with chevron as it made it more obvious when my chevron was not cut exactly straight.  Boo.

Finished, it measures approx 12" tall, 15" wide at the top and 10" wide at the bottom.

The applique I purchased from the Etsy shop, Applique Boutique.  I really like this pumpkin....I am going to make some hot pads for fall with this applique on it too!   The font is Acorn Squash from 8 Claws and A Paw.

If you are interested in a treat bag for your little one this Halloween, head over to by Facebook page HERE as I will be offering a limited number of them for sale.  If you are student and would like to make one, let me know and I will help you with knowing what to purchase and can email you the patterns.

I have another applique of a black cat that I can't wait to try so I will post pictures of that bag when done!
