Last Friday, I finally finished the Scarf Neck Cardigan which I made using a free pattern from Swoon Patterns. There is a ladies size and also a girl's size pattern! You can find the patterns HERE.
I made the Ladies size small and it fits perfectly. The sleeves are a little long but that is an easy fix...they just need to be hemmed up a little more.
For the cardigan, I bought 2 yards of knit fabric that was 60" wide. I printed out the pattern pieces on my printer and taped them together. When printing out your pattern pieces at home, remember to not set your printer to "scale to fit" but to print at its actual size or at 100%. Sometimes PDF readers can alter the scaling and you end up with pattern pieces too big or too small.
This is a great project for an advanced beginner sewist as you learn how to sew with knits and use your twin needle to hem the knit fabric. Here is what the twin needle stitching looks like:
Later this week, I will talk more here on the blog about sewing with knits and with a twin needle.
If you are on Facebook, head over to the Swoon Patterns page and make sure to follow them! They also have a fan group that you can join and ask questions about the patterns.
And if you make one, I would love to see a picture!
